A Visit From State Attorney, Angela B. Corey
Just yesterday, on April 22, 2013, Florida's state attorney, Angela Corey had visited RCSA. Ms. Corey, in fact, is the first woman to hold her position in Florida's Fourth Judicial Circuit Court as of 2008. Throughout her years of success, Ms. Corey has tried several cases and has taken a higher position of responsibility. It was great hearing these things from her and her co-worker during Rocketfuel's interview where she was open to questions as well as complementing our school. We had asked herseveral questions including those about what she does on a day to day basis with work, what one can do to at a young age to prepare for a future position as an attorney, and enclosing, a motivational word for viewers. (She recommended for students to read, read, READ) Following her tour of the elementary building she had found herself fascinated by the innovation RCSA has created and the positive attitudes the students have here. River City Science Academy welcomed yet again a wonderful opportunity so thank you to Angela Corey and all of those who helped!

Honorable Paula Wright Visits RCSA
March 18, 2013 River City Science Academy welcomed another
wonderful guest, member of the school board, the Honorable Paula Wright. She
toured our school and talked with us about what is going on within the school
board now. Before she got a glimpse of
our high school, we caught an interview with her where we got the chance to
find out more about her. She answered questions like what she feels is the most
impactful part of her job, what her thoughts are on education overall, and
several more. She spoke about how dealing with education was just always
something she did and she feels that now, with her position on the school
board; she can ensure that children are getting their education. Mrs. Wright
says that reading is a fundamental tool in education and that reading is your
gateway to fulfilling your dreams which is why it is so important. RCSA
couldn’t agree more! It was great having her visit and we hope she enjoyed her
time here, at the home of the Rockets. Thank you Paula Wright!

A Visit From Dr. Connie Hall
River City Science Academy welcomed
another guest today; School board member, Dr. Constance S. Hall. She has always
been involved in the education system from her position as a teacher, to a principal
and even district administrator. Receiving
a Bachelor’s, Master’s and PHD, Dr. Hall values education and enjoyed getting a
look at how we use those skills here at RCSA. After touring the school, she
joined Rocketfuel for a quick interview where we found out more! We asked her
if her past experience dealing with education has helped her with what she does
today and she responded quickly by proclaiming the significance in knowing what
goes on in school and what is needed in
order to provide children with appropriate skills. This led us to our next
question on what she feels is the most important part about education; simple:
reading and comprehension. She discussed the importance of reading in our lives
and how the more you read the more you know, the more places you can go, and
the more your mind can explore. Before our enclosing, she gave a few words of
inspiration for our watchers encouraging everyone to READ, READ, READ! On
behalf of RCSA, we would like to thank Dr. Connie Hall for joining us and spending
some time to talk to us.

RCSA Welcome's Senator Aaron Bean
Thursday, February 28, 2013 was an exciting day for RCSA as
we were visited by a member of the Florida Senate, Senator Aaron Bean. He was
greeted with warm welcomes on a chilly day before he spoke at an assembly for
select 6th and 7th graders. The students were intrigued
and asked several questions as he tried to answer every one. He spoke of a few
of his current positions and achievements such as being a Commissioner and
Mayor of Fernandina Beach as well as a member of the Florida House of
Representatives for 8 years all before being elected Senator. Afterwards, he of
course got a tour of our school and joined Rocketfuel for an interview. We
asked him about what it is like being a Senator and he replied with positive
remarks because as he had said, he loves his job. We asked about his experience meeting Bill
Clinton and then of course what he thought of our school. River City Science
Academy once again got great reviews from another visitor. Thank you Senator
Aaron Bean!

Breaking News!! Stacy Spanos visits RCSA
Yesterday, February 25, 2013, Stacy Spanos, morning anchor
for Channel 4, our local news station, visited River City Science Academy with
a smile on her face, despite the rainy weather. It was great having her come
and talk to some of our 6th graders as she related to them and made
them laugh. She spoke to them about the importance of being the best you that
you can be as well as a few of her stories from working with the news business.
She too, toured the school and visited a few of our classrooms including the
science labs where she even had to sign a couple autographs. Before she left,
Rocketfuel got an interview with her where she was asked about the most
challenging part of her job, which she thought might have to be waking up at
3a.m. for work; then, of course what she thought of our school along with a few
words of motivation for our viewers. RCSA has once again been complemented as
being a great school, so way to go! On behalf of River City Science Academy, we
thank Stacy Spanos for visiting our school and helping us add another piece to
our growing timeline; we were so very pleased to welcome her to our school.

The President of Jacksonville's Public Education Fund
Today, February 20, 2013, has marked another exciting day
for River City Science Academy to remember thanks to our visit from the first President
of Jacksonville’s Public Education Fund, Trey Csar. He spoke to several of our
younger students who were enthusiastic to participate as many hands were raised
to ask questions that he responded to efficiently while keeping their young
minds interested. He really Following the assembly, Mr. Csar toured the
elementary school and was able to experience a little bit of RCSA, of which he
says is a great school and that he enjoyed getting the opportunity to experience
what it’s all about . Rocketfuel news even got in a quick interview with him
afterwards where we learned more about what he does and how the public
education fund really works on making sure the people within the education
system are paid and treated correctly. Some of the questions asked included how
his past experience as a teacher assists him in his current career which he
answered with that it really gave him a deeper perspective because he does know
what it is like teaching so he knows what is needed, wanted, and the most
important; when asked what is most important about school and where most of the
funding goes to, he told us that it’s the people who do the most because they
are teaching the minds of tomorrow so it is also important to regulate the
people that are a part of this system, this includes funding. We thank Trey
Csar for checking out our school and giving us the chance to make more history.
We are also glad he enjoyed it and gave positive reviews. Way to go RCSA!
